Come participate in meaningful research on the environment, genetics, biology and more at the USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF) this weekend! Visit booth # 951 to learn what citizen science is, and how to do interesting projects at home using the SciStarter website.

At the booth you’ll meet scientists including members of the Science Cheerleaders (current and former NFL and NBA cheerleaders pursuing science and technology careers) who will perform science-themed routines, talk about their dual careers as scientists and professional cheerleaders, sign autographs and lead citizen science activities selected from SciStarter.
This year, we’re going to pilot test our brand new SciStarter Citizen Science Kits, created in partnership with our pals at the Oakland Museum of California!
The SciStarter team will also demonstrate how you can get involved in Citizen Science Day on April 14th, presented by SciStarter and the Citizen Science Association.

ZomBee Watch: Scientists believe that the Zombie Fly, Apocephalus borealis, is parasitizing honey bees. Help researchers determine where honey bees are being parasitized by the Zombie Fly. You’ll learn to spot infected bees (we’ll show you what that nasty Zombie Fly looks like in person!), build your own bee catcher, and report observations to this project…or purchase a mini kit to get started right away!
Meet Your Mites: Learn about face mites through DNA analysis when you swab your skin and send samples to the California Academy of Sciences. So far the study has shown that while there are many types of mites, many people – even those who have lived their whole lives in the US – have mites similar to those in the country where their ancestors were born. We’ll help you swab your face right at the booth. 🙂 Or, if you want to get started later, you can purchase a mini kit to-go.
