Calling all citizen scientists! Join us for the first ever CitSciCon on May 21-22, 2021. This free series of open-door, online events, hosted by the Citizen Science Association and SciStarter, celebrates NASA’s nearly two dozen citizen science projects, scientists, and citizen scientists (you!).
Have you participated in a NASA citizen science project for at least six months and are you 18 or older? We want to hear from you! We are looking for volunteers to feature during the event. Organizers will select videos to showcase during CitSciCon and a handful of submitters will be invited to a live session to connect with scientists and prospective participants! If you are interested, send us a one minute video to share why you participate and what you’ve learned from your experience. Videos will be assigned a Creative Commons license (CC-BY), granting others the right to play, reuse, or remix your video (giving you credit for the original work, of course).
Submissions are due May 12th. Here’s how to get started:
- Please include or address the following information when creating your video:

- Your name and the name of the NASA citizen science project that you’ve participated in
- Approximate length of time you are /were involved
- Answer one or more of the following questions:
- Why do you participate in this project?
- What have you learned? (Did you learn something about science? About yourself, etc?)
- What feedback do you have for the project scientist?
- What advice do you have for people who might be considering this project?

- Save your video using your first and last name as the title
- Upload your video to a share-able space of your choice (YouTube, Twitter, Google Drive, etc.), and copy the link
- Fill out this quick form to officially submit: https://forms.gle/g8vCJdX68WMB8Wm97. You may submit more than one video.
- Register for CitSciCon and help spread the word! All are invited to tune in!
Here are some considerations to keep in mind:
- Try not to include other people in your frame and be mindful of your background
- If you’re recording this on your mobile device, hold the camera horizontally, up at eye-level or higher
- Light your face (no backlighting)
- Record in a quiet space and speak clearly
- By submitting a photo or video for this activity, you agree to grant the U.S. Government and its contractors and authorized agents a royalty-free, irrevocable right to reproduce, publish, distribute, perform, display, or otherwise feature the photograph or video in any and all media and for any and all purposes. Submitted photos or videos should be the sole original work of the person submitting. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any photograph or video containing an image of a person has been taken with the permission of that person (or, when under 18, the consent of their parent or guardian), and any necessary permissions and/or releases required to have their image submitted for this activity have been obtained. Submitted photographs or video must not infringe on the copyright of any third party. The entrant must own the copyright for the submitted photograph or video and for the usage rights required by the U.S. Government. Submitted photographs or video must not infringe the privacy rights, or any other rights of any person. Copyright of a photograph or video submitted for this activity remains with the respective entrants. However, while NASA will use reasonable efforts to credit the photographer or videographer, we will not seek permission to reuse an image after it has been submitted.
