We hope you and your communities can make use of these free resources designed to support new and seasoned participants.
1) Check out this brand new playlist on YouTube featuring “How To” videos to help people learn about and participate in citizen science projects. More than a dozen project organizers have already created videos or sent us their existing videos to add to this playlist. If you run a project, contact info@SciStarter.com to learn how to upload your “How To” video or email the video to info@SciStarter.com and we’ll add it.
2) David Huang is a 17-year-old who took it upon himself to create Help a Scientist, a browser extension that makes it incredibly easy to discover and join citizen science projects from SciStarter. Help a Scientist replaces the new tab of your browser with an opportunity to participate in a citizen science project. Each time you refresh the page or open a new tab, there will be a new fun task waiting for you. If something catches your eye, simply clicking the button will take you to the SciStarter page where you’ll find more details and instructions on exactly how to contribute to the project. Get the free extension here and spread the word!
3) We are thrilled to announce that citizen science projects and events that use SciStarter’s Affiliate Tools can be featured in our new programs with the Girl Scouts of USA (see Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey for older troops), Broward County, FL school district and North Carolina State University’s Citizen Science Campus initiative! These collaborators use a customized version of SciStarter to introduce new audiences to citizen science and they rely on projects that use the free, safe and secure Affiliate Tools to provide evidence of participation across multiple projects. 4) Please don’t hesitate to email info@scistarter.com if you want help getting started with the Affiliate Tools now. In addition, thanks to support from the National Science Foundation, SciStarter and Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society will host an online and in-person workshop about the SciStarter Affiliate Tools November 8 & 9 at North Carolina State University. Stay tuned for more on the workshop. And thank you to the 50+ projects that have already adopted the SciStarter Affiliate Tools which were made possible with support from the National Science Foundation!
